Van Gogh's Sunflower III woven European tapestry pillow cover features the work of famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. "Sunflowers" is based on one of a series of Vincent van Gogh's works called "Still Life: Vase with Twelve Flowers". Painted in 1888 in Arles France, the Dutch painter produced three different paintings, two with a dozen flowers and one with 15 sunflowers. One went to Paul Gaugin for his bedroom decor. The others were sold. Most recently, one went to a private collector for nearly $40,000. "Sunflower" is remarkable for its superb use of the yellow spectrum. Some newly created pigments made these colors possible and van Gogh experimented with them in these paintings. Here, some of the sunflowers are beginning to whither, part of van Gogh's study of the cycle of life as portrayed by the flowers.
