The Kiss I woven European tapestry pillow cover features the work of famous artist Gustav Klimt. An artist from Austria in the Vienna Secession movement, Klimt (1862 - 1918) was fascinated by the subject of this woman shown in the Kiss as well as his other works such as the Accomplishment. Here in the kiss, we see the woman in an embrace receiving a kiss. Her expression is dreamy and relaxed, and is surrounded by symbolism of stars on her hair, and patterns to decorate her garments. The color palette is sumptuous and decadent with golds, red, blues, browns and blacks. The use of pattern by Klimt was unlike any other artist and pushed the boundaries of art beyond the traditional ideas of beauty and aesthetics. The Vienna Secession movement of art was all about the evolution of art from the traditional into the new uncharted territories.
