Stuart Crest 2 is a Belgian impressionist tapestry pillow cover piece inspired by the official final crest of The House of Stuart. The family name was originally Stewart or in Gaelic, Stiubhard, but was changed by Mary I, Queen of Scots due to her French upbringing and nobility as Queen to both France and Scotland. She had rightful claim to the throne of England but contended with Queen Elizabeth I, who imprisoned her for 19 years due to conspiracy to assassinate the British monarch. Elizabeth had her executed at the age of 44. Upon Elizabeth's death Mary's son James I succeeded her throne to England. There is no longer any officially known direct lineage to the original Stiubhard clan and they are now considered extinct, however there are families of peerage who still carry the Stuart name. This crest is also present on the Royal Coat of arms of the United Kingdom, however the unicorn and the lion are on alternate sides. Stuart Crest 2 depicts an image of a lion and a unicorn proudly displayed on either side within the crest featuring French inscriptions reading: "Dieu et mon droit" scrolled on the bottom meaning "My Divine Right", and the words "Honi soit qui mal y pense" meaning "Shame to him who evil thinks". Stuart Crest 2 is jacquard woven, the backed lining is of a plush velvet with an invisible zipper closure that allows easy placement and removal of pillow inserts. This ornate decorativepillow not only adds an immaculate beauty to your home decor motif, it also brings the fascinating tale of medieval history.
